If you want to try to do it yourself for whatever reason, we have included steps below to change cartridge filters, the most common type of filters. |
Below are the instructions to clean a cartridge filter:
1) Turn off the pool pump system and remove air from the system
2) Remove the latching mechanism and remove the top of the filter
3) Remove the cartridge. If there are cracks or tears, the cartridge needs to be replaced. Inspect the filter for normal wear and make sure that cleaning will be effective.
4) Use a garden hose spray nozzle to clean the filter, taking care to get inside the pleats. Use a filter cleaner to ensure the filter is truly clean. If you have gone an especially long time since cleaning your filter, soak the filter in filter cleaner overnight.
5) Apply lubricant lightly to the O-Ring in the filter tank to keep it in good condition. If it is worn out, replace it.
6) Rinse the cartridge completely and return it to the filter, securing it in place.
7) Replace the top of the filter and re-secure the latching mechanism.
8) Turn the system back on and open the air release valve. This releases excess pressure from the system. Wait until a steady stream of water sprays out. Check the system pressure (PSI) to assure that it is within normal range.
